In an unprecedented move, Pixar’s Elemental included the animation studio’s first non-binary character in what is considered a win for the Lgbtqia+ community in terms of representation. Elemental is Pixar’s latest animated movie, released in theaters on June 16, 2023. The movie follows the living embodiments of the four elements, fire, water, earth, and air, as they try to coexist together.

The fact that the film includes the first non-binary character created by the studio isn't the only first for Pixar. Elemental also was a much-needed win for the studio after previous films like Luca and Turning Red were exclusive to Disney+ during the pandemic, and Lightyear was a box office bomb. It is worth mentioning that this inclusion stays true to the film’s emotional message about co-existence and tolerance toward each other, keeping the narrative tonally consistent.
