Superman’s powers are boosted by exposure to the sun, but there are good reasons the Man of Steel doesn’t often go into the sun itself. It might provide an instant power boost for him, but the combination of impracticality and inherent risk that "Sun-Dipping" brings is simply too high. Just because you can do something, doesn’t mean you should.

Superman’s powers fluctuate based on his current exposure to the sun’s solar radiation. In stories, this is most often used as a weakness, with villains sapping Superman's strength by blocking him off from the sun. However, the opposite is also true, which is that by exposing himself to more direct sunlight, Superman can get a short-term power upgrade. By literally "Sun-Dipping," going inside the sun for a short period of time, Superman's powers can temporarily shoot to new heights.
