The show follows Sheriff Seth Bullock (Timothy Olyphant) and saloon-owner Al Swearengen (Ian McShane), two real figures in Deadwood's origin story. It was also populated by some of the Wild West's most enduring icons, like Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane.
