Manhwa is the general term for the comics and print-cartoons that come out of Korea and they’re the country’s equivalent to Japan’s manga. Manga and its accompanying anime have found international success and there are even fringe properties that are hits in North America and Europe. Manhwa hasn’t expanded to the same extent as manga, but there are just as strong stories being told in this medium that frequently get overlooked.
