Kick-Ass Reboot Will Address the Rise of R-Rated Superhero Stories
A new update on the Kick-Ass reboot reveals how it will include commentary on how superhero media has changed since the original movies were released.
Released in 2010 by director Matthew Vaughn, Kick-Ass was unique in that it came at a time when R-rated superhero movies were not common. At the time, the film's extreme violence and profanity made Kick-Ass controversial, though it was also a big success, as it was followed by a sequel in 2013. More than a decade later, R-rated superhero fanfare has risen in popularity exponentially, and the continued success of The Boys is a major example of that. In a new interview with Collider, Vaughn shared how the "meta" approach taken with the Kick-Ass reboot will address how the landscape has changed with the genre since Kick-Ass 2's release.
