Neil Gaiman's Sandman off-shoot Dead Boy Detectives has finally been given the TV show treatment at Netflix, but it has been canceled before season 2. Based on the eponymous comic series from the 1990s, the show follows the ghosts of two teenage boys who opt not to cross over to the other side and instead stay on earth helping solve mysteries for their supernatural clients. Tinged with Gaiman's uniquely dark sense of humor and amazing fantasy world-building, Dead Boy Detectives is a comic book deep-cut that was screaming for adaptation.
Plans were in place to give the Dead Boy Detective Agency its own show over at HBO during the run of Doom Patrol, but the idea was scrapped along with the aforementioned edgy anti-superhero series.
