Mufasa: The Lion King is a prequel to the live-action remake, set to be released on December 20, 2024. The movie will focus on Mufasa's backstory, with Rafiki narrating, exploring his early days before The Lion King. The trailer hints that the timeline of Mufasa will span from when Mufasa is a cub, up until he is closer to nine years old.
Disney has dropped the trailer for Mufasa: The Lion King, its follow-up to the live-action remake of The Lion King, and it finally confirms when this prequel (and semi-sequel) will take place within the franchises story timeline. Directed by Moonlights Barry Jenkins, Mufasa: The Lion King will fill in the backstory of Simbas late father, as told by Rafiki. Much like its predecessor, Mufasa will be a photorealistic live-action movie presenting its animated characters as real-looking animals against authentic photographed backdrops of the African savanna.
