It’s a reality that no working filmmaker ever wants to entertain, and yet we find sixth-generation Chinese filmmaker Lou Ye take the plunge (possibly exorcise some personal and professional demons) for what is a riveting, highly inventive mid-career oeuvre masterstroke.
