The Grimm Variations' Episode 4 Ending, Explained

Quick Links Who Is the Shoemaker In The Grimm Variations? Who Are the Elves In The Grimm Variations? What Is Charlotte's Message In The Grimm Variations Episode 4?
The following contains spoilers for The Grimm Variations, now streaming on Netflix.
One of the most intriguing aspects about Netflix's The Grimm Variations is how existential the anime gets. It mixes in several morose themes along the way. "Litttle Red Riding Hood" anime episode, for example, focuses on toxic masculinity via a cult that massacred women for fun.
It's not all about action or suspense, though, as with "The Town Musicians of Bremen." The Grimm Variations doesn't mind leaning into drama and slow-burn stories. Episode 4, "The Elves and the Shoemaker" perfectly illustrates this. By the time the conclusion is reached, it has a very thought-provoking, relatable message that applies universally regarding ambition and working hard to achieve a utopia.
