Criston Cole manipulates the truth to bolster Aegon's image and maintain support in King's Landing. He withholds information from Queen Alicent out of fear and duty, and to avoid risking Aemond's wrath. Criston's lies and omissions escalate the confusion and treachery in the battle aftermath, endangering Aegon's rule.

Criston Cole lies to the smallfolk about Aegons battle victory and to Alicent about Aemonds suspected role in his injuries, highlighting how powerless he has become in House of the Dragons war.
