Although Guardians of the Galaxy was not his debut movie, the MCU entry launched James Gunn’s career to new heights. He became an important comic book movie director and his movies have been consistently praised for being inventive and original, as well as fun and very, very watchable.

Initially, the director made his career with Marvel, but left at one point due to various reasons, with Guardians of the Galaxy 3 being his final MCU film. After that, Gunn has switched to DC, making The Suicide Squad and soon taking over the whole Dcu as its head and creative director.
