Hellboy Creator Says The Crooked Man Is The Most Faithful Film Adaptation to Date
Fans warmed up to the Hellboy films despite their loose adaptations of the original stories. Creator Mike Mignola says Hellboy: The Crooked Man will instead stay very faithful to the comics.
The trailer for Hellboy: The Crooked Man teased a deep dive into supernatural horror, a departure from the adventure-action bent of previous iterations. The upcoming film is also scaled down in contrast to the epic scope of Guillermo del Toro's versions and Neil Marshall's reboot; that film failed to impress in its attempts to ground the franchise to its horror roots. In an interview with Screen Rant, Hellboy creator Mike Mignola confirmed he was hands-on with the latest iteration, co-writing the screenplay with director Brian Taylor. Mignola said Hellboy: The Crooked Man will not be a "loose adaptation" that cherry-picks the source material.
