In the dystopian future of Netflix's Uglies, Dr. Cable is the antagonist. The movie -- based on the book by Scott Westerfeld -- depicts a society in which citizens undergo extreme cosmetic surgery when they turn 16 to make them "pretty." Dr. Cable is the head of the mysterious department known as Special Circumstances, and it's not a spoiler to say that she's got plenty of tricks up her sleeve.

Laverne Cox plays Dr. Cable in the Netflix movie adaptation, and spoke to Cbr about how strongly she reacted to the character when she read the novel.
