Zoids is an anime series that appeared on Cartoon Network's Toonami programming block in 2001. It was meant to capitalize on the popularity of Pokmon, with its similar set-up of human/beast partners competing in tournament-style battles. The series perfectly blends elements from foundational Toonami shows, such as Gundam's sleek mech fights, Best Wars' incorporation of exotic animals, and a lovable cast of recurring characters, like in Tenchi Universe.
