While most Easter eggs are just there for the fun of it, some such as this can make the game itself a bit more engaging.

As explained by Redditor Searching-For-Home, Animal Crossing players who invite a villager who used to live on their island back via an amiibo card will find the villager remembers them. This is in contrast to removing a villager from an island, and then running into them again on a deserted island, where they will no longer remember the player.
