Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, the next in a long line of Warhammer games, has launched to rave reviews and has undoubtedly introduced its wonderful grimdark universe to a whole group of newcomers. However, while all those who prefer boltguns to matchlock rifles or chainswords to broadswords are having a riotous time experiencing Titus' adventures against the Tyranid swarms, those who prefer the Fantasy side of Warhammer are being left behind. This begs the question of why there hasn't been a Warhammer Fantasy game like Space Marine.

Some of the best Warhammer games of all time belong to the Warhammer Fantasy universe, with the likes of Total War: Warhammer 3 offering players an impressive overview of the setting. However, outside Vermintide, there have been few games that offer a more personal and narrative-driven approach within the Warhammer Fantasy setting, especially to the same degree the Space Marine series has offered.
