Dune has always been a cornerstone of classic sci-fi, particularly when it comes to the series' themes and concepts. Author Frank Herbert's six-book series follows the Atreides family and the planet Arrakis, which created many tropes that future sci-fi works would use. However, it was about more than interstellar wars in the far future. Dune was a treatise on human nature and the dangers of charismatic leaders and had a strong message about how humanity and ecology intertwined. Herbert's books are often casually brilliant and many of their themes remain true decades after they were written.
