Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball excels as an innovative and challenging battle shonen series, albeit one that's not beyond turning to tried-and-true anime archetypes. Evil twins or doubles are repeatedly explored in anime in everything from Digimon to My Hero Academia. There's something inherently unnerving about an enemy who looks like a trusted hero.
