Bob Iger to Step Down as Disney CEO, Successor to Be Announced in Early 2026

Bob Iger was appointed president of Disney in 2000 and succeeded Michael Eisner as CEO in 2005, serving in that role until his contract expired in 2020. He then became executive chairman until his formal retirement on December 31, 2021. Even after his departure, Iger remained an advisor to his successor.
However, at the request of Disney’s board of directors, Iger returned as CEO on November 20, 2022, following the unexpected and immediate dismissal of his successor, Bob Chapek. In July 2023, Disney extended Iger’s contract through 2026.

To assist in the search, Disney has enlisted the headhunting firm Heidrick & Struggles to identify outside candidates, with three potential frontrunners already under consideration.
