A movie reuniting some of the major cast and crew from Forrest Gump has passed a box office milestone despite still struggling to break even. Directed by special effects innovator Robert Zemeckis, 1994's Forrest Gump was a smash hit. The movie, which is adapted from the Winston Groom novel of the same name and follows a man who unwittingly witnesses and influences many important historical moments over the course of his life, grossed $678.2 million worldwide against its $55 million budget and became the second highest-grossing movie of the year worldwide behind Disney's The Lion King.

The Robert Zemeckis movie was also a critical success. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has earned a Certified Fresh 75% score from critics alongside its near-perfect 95% audience score.
