My Hero Academia Star Defends the Anime's Most Controversial Character: "He's a Literal Child"

It's no stretch to say that My Hero Academia's Minoru Mineta may be the most controversial character in the entire franchise, but Mineta's English voice actor seems to have had enough with the hate that the character receives. Turning to Instagram, Mineta's voice actor Brina Palencia defended the character as "just a child."
Mineta is an often controversial character for falling into the "pervert" archetype, an unfortunately common class of character in anime and manga. Mineta approaches most things with a sexual bent, often harassing the girls in Class 1-a (and even pro heroes) whom he finds attractive. While these moments are often played for laughs, many My Hero Academia fans, particularly in the West, tend to find the character unpalatable at best and downright offensive at worst. As Mineta's English voice actor, Palencia felt the need to address some of the vitriol aimed at the character in a social media post.
