Andy Serkis looks back on his transition from playing Gollum in The Lord of the Rings movies to playing the titular character in Peter Jackson's King Kong. Serkis' revolutionary work with motion capture technology in his Gollum performance had a far-reaching impact. It led to Serkis playing King Kong, Caesar in the Planet of the Apes prequel trilogy, and Supreme Leader Snoke in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, all of which were achieved via motion capture.
