Marvel Rivals Boss Is Wrong: Concord Didn’t Fail Due to Overwatch “Switching Cost”, It’s Because They Broke a Cardinal Rule
The reason Concord didn’t succeed, according to Marvel Rivals’ game director Thaddeus Sasser, is that it didn’t bring anything “unique value” to the market. In 2024, Concord and Marvel Rivals both joined the crowded hero shooter market. Despite the success of Marvel‘s most recent game, Sony shut down Concord soon after it came out.

Like Blizzard’s Overwatch, Sony’s hero shooter Concord had a whole cast of original characters. Sony failed to draw in a steady player base despite its efforts to introduce its audience to the new heroes and engaging gameplay. Regretfully, following the closure of Concord, Sony announced the closure of Firewalk Studios.
