Dragon Ball Daima Has Taken Away Goku’s History: The Saiyans Are No Longer the Most Tragic Race in Akira Toriyama’s Franchise

Dragon Ball Daima has redefined the narrative of tragedy within the franchise by revealing the Namekians’ devastating past. Until now, the narrative device used for Goku and the other Saiyans becoming homeless and destroyed was the saddest tale in all of the Dragon Ball series.

It seems that Toriyama thought it was time for change and decided to focus on a different race, one that had its own rich lore in Dragon Ball Z, the Namekians on Planet Namek. The race of Piccolo had been suppressed to the extent of being treated like slaves. This harsh past gives a new perspective and understanding of this legacy race.
