Kate Beckinsale Almost Turned Down ‘Underworld’

Image Source: Sony Pictures In 2003, Kate Beckinsale took a chance on a little-known action-horror film called Underworld. The movie became a surprise box office success, launching a franchise that now spans four sequels and a short film. Underworld introduced audiences to Selene, a captivating vampire warrior caught in an ancient war between her kind and the Lycans (werewolves). When she falls for Michael, a human targeted by the Lycans, their forbidden love ignites a new chapter in the conflict. Interestingly, the role of Selene almost went to another actress. Beckinsale initially hesitated to even read the script. Preconceived notions about vampire films had her picturing a stereotypical B-movie horror flick. However, once she delved into the story and saw the director’s vision, her perspective shifted. The action sequences and the unique world-building immediately drew her in. Before Underworld hit theaters, Kate Beckinsale admitted she almost didn’t take the role.
