The Goonies Returns To Theaters For 40th Anniversary
Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, Martha Plimpton, Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Kerri Green, and Ke Huy Quan in The Goonies (1985)
At this point, we’d have to say The Goonies was probably one of the most influential films of Steven Spielberg’s career, even if it didn’t seem like it would be at the time. He’d certainly made things that were flashier, and got more immediate attention, but this basic adventure about a gang of Coastal youngsters and a pirate ship made a huge cultural impact. Just about every family and children’s film produced in the decades since has borne its influence, and….there have been a lot of decades. Like it or not, this film turns 40 this year. Eeek! But that anniversary means Mike, Chunk, Sloth, Mouth, Brand, Data and everyone else with a weird nickname will be returning to a place they haven’t been in a long time. Yep, The Goonies is coming back to theaters. Multiple times, in fact. WB and Fathom Events are arranging it.
