Nosferatu's 10 Biggest Similarities to Dracula

Robert Eggers' fourth feature film unites the director once again with collaborators Ralph Ineson and Willem Dafoe in a remake of a cinematic classic. Nosferatu was a German Expressionist film of the 1920s, directed by F.W. Murnau known as a "symphony of horror." Following one family's trials with the titular ancient vampire, the film was a precursor to modern horror films. Those who have seen it -- and Eggers' adaptation -- may find the story familiar.

The German film was, in fact, an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker's iconic vampire novel, Dracula. The 1890s story follows a Transylvanian Count who develops an obsession with the Englishwoman Mina Harker. Similarly, Count Orlok feels a connection with Ellen Hutter, a newlywed based in Germany. Eggers sticks quite close to Murnau's work of fiction and, therefore, shares many similarities with Stoker's work.
