Mel Gibson has joined a long list of Hollywood stars who have lost their homes in the devastating Los Angeles wildfires.

In in interview Thursday with NewsNation’s Elizabeth Vargas, Gibson said he was away in Austin, TX, recording Joe Rogan’s podcast when he learned his Malibu home had been destroyed. You can watch it below.

Gibson said he felt “ill at ease” when he was in Austin because he knew his neighborhood was “on fire”.

“I thought, ‘Eh, I wonder if my place is still there,’” he said. “When I got home, sure enough, it wasn’t there.” He then quipped, “Well, at least I haven’t got any of those pesky plumbing problems anymore.”

“It’s kind of devastating, it’s emotional,” Gibson said told Vargas. “I’ve been relieved from the burden of my stuff because it’s all in cinders.”
