Sakamoto Days Just Introduced Shonen Anime's Newest Iconic Duo
Most Shōnen anime feature either a core duo or a core trio of characters. In the case of Winter 2025's biggest new series, Sakamoto Days, it goes the former route, only having two main leads. And just based on Episode 1, it isn't missing anything with this narrow focus, as its protagonists are already proving to be a perfect pair.
The stars of Sakamoto Days, Taro Sakamoto and Shin Asakura, already possess the makings of a great Shōnen duo. Like Goku and Vegeta in Dragon Ball Super, or Light Yagami and L in Death Note, these two radically different former hit men complement and contrast each other in a variety of ways, each bringing something to the anime that the other cannot. Sakamoto and Asakura have clear potential to shine as characters individually, but the biggest draw of Sakamoto Days could likely become the relationship between the two men.
