The series recounts the events of the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu, a two-day battle between the United States and the Somali National Alliance. The brutal battle saw the most Americans killed in one engagement since the Vietnam War decades earlier—18—as well as hundreds of Somalis. The best-known stories of the battle focus on two downed Sikorsky Uh-60 Black Hawk helicopters, which were desperately defended by American forces until they could be rescued by an armored convoy.
