When Henry Cavill auditioned for Casino Royale in 2006, director Martin Campbell was impressed – “He looked great in the audition. His acting was tremendous,” he said. But despite his chiseled good looks and killer physique, Cavill was “just a little young” for the role. So, the mantle of 007 went to Daniel Craig, who, at the time, had the right amount of mature gravitas to bring Bond to life.

Cavill, who was in his early 20s at the time, wasn’t quite the seasoned spy the franchise needed. “If Daniel didn’t exist Henry would have made an excellent Bond,” Campbell added.
