“We can never deny the longing”: Hayao Miyazaki Wanted ‘Whisper of the Heart’s’ Original Ending to Be a Sentimental Mess
The legend of Hayao Miyazaki and his great masterpieces is known to everyone who is even remotely accustomed to the anime industry. And while the creator has directed some of the greatest stories in history, he has also written a few of them that have made it big. One such story that is considered to be a gem of Miyazaki’s writing was Whisper of the Heart.

Released in 1995, Whisper of the Heart is a romantic drama film filled with many enticing story developments. It was directed by Yoshifumi Kondo and produced by Studio Ghibli. The screenwriter of the anime movie was Miyazaki, and he did an excellent job with the narrative, considering the fame and recognition the film received after its release.
While the entire story was planned by Miyazaki, he had to make a change in the ending for some reason.
