Doomfans have been on a roll. After years of dormancy, the landmark First-Person Shooter (Fps) came back with all guns blazing in 2016 through the franchise's universally-acclaimed return to form, Doom (2016). Then, against all odds, id Software surpassed their already great game with the even better Doom: Eternal. The 2020 sequel is set to be followed up by the highly anticipated Doom: The Dark Ages, which is coming out as soon as May 2025.

Because of this impressive roll, it's easy (or even preferable) to forget that Doom didn't always have it this good. Nothing embodies the franchise's awkward entrance into the 2000s better than the Doom film, which was so bad that its stars, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Rosamund Pike, feel embarrassed about starring in it. This failure didn't stop filmmakers from trying, as seen with the 2019 direct-to-video soft reboot, Doom: Annihilation.Although it has its own flaws, Doom: Annihilation is still everything Doom (2005) should've been.
