Chiefs’ Coach Andy Reid Triumphs Over Tragedy After Death Of Son Garrett From Drug Od & DUI Conviction Of Another Son Britt
Image
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has cemented his legacy as one of the greatest coaches in NFL history, leading his team to three Super Bowl victories. Despite losing on Sunday, Reid has faced far worse with personal tragedies involving his sons, Garrett and Britt.

Reid’s eldest son, Garrett, died of a heroin overdose in 2012 at the age of 29. Despite growing up in idyllic suburban Philadelphia, Garrett struggled with addiction in his 20s, leading to multiple arrests. In 2007, he crashed his car while under the influence of heroin, seriously injuring another driver. He was sentenced to 23 months in prison and later convicted of smuggling prescription pills while incarcerated.

“I liked being the rich kid in that area and having my own high-status life,” Garrett reportedly told a probation officer. “I could go anywhere in the ‘hood. They all knew who I was. I enjoyed it. I liked being a drug dealer.
