The animation industry is mostly dominated by big names from Hollywood like Disney, and Pixar and the only non-Hollywood name that comes to everyone’s mind is none other than Studio Ghibli’s famed filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki. However, there’s a new non-Hollywood competitor in the animation industry. Chinese animation film Ne Zha 2 has recently taken the global box office by storm.

Since its debut on January 29, the film has maintained its momentum, surpassing The Super Mario Bros. Movie to become the third highest-grossing animated film of all time. With a current total exceeding 10 billion yuan ($1.37 billion) and projections of reaching 16 billion yuan, Ne Zha 2 is on track to do what no other non-Hollywood animated film has ever accomplished: crossing the elusive $2 billion mark.
