It’s the same luxury, but with a whole new set of reservations. Mike White’s anthology series, The White Lotus, has finally returned for a third go-around, this time focusing on a new set of characters in Thailand checking into the titular resort. Already, the show is promising more of the dark social satire and class commentary that defined White’s first season, mixed with the relationship drama of the second season, and the most overt threats of violence to date.

Sunday’s season premiere was a strong start, hopefully paving the way for several compelling weeks ahead. The character dynamics are as engaging as ever, the actors are on their A-game, and the exotic environment of Thailand already feels like a character on its own. And as is befitting for a new setting, the show has a new opening credits sequence, albeit still featuring murals and wall paintings.
