For years, the Academy Awards, or rather the Oscars, have been a battleground for debates on diversity, inclusion, and social biases that unfortunately exist and shape Hollywood’s most prestigious awards. The 2025 Academy Awards are no exception. Already under much scrutiny and controversy for a range of reasons, the awards kicked off yet another debate.

The recent controversy stems from an anonymous Oscar voter’s reasoning for not voting for Wicked star Cynthia Erivo as Best Actress since she is too old. Well, needless to say, fans have not taken this well and once again bashed the Academy, demanding reforms and changes in its structure and processes.
