Patrick Dempsey Reveals Why He Won’t Be Returning for ‘Scream 7’
In October, Patrick Dempsey expressed interest in returning to the Scream franchise. He shared that there had been talks about him reprising his role as Detective Mark Kincaid. Dempsey mentioned on the Today show, ‘I’m waiting on the script, [but] I haven’t seen anything yet. So we’ll see what happens.‘
However, by January, it was confirmed that Dempsey wouldn’t be returning. He later explained what happened, saying, ‘It just didn’t work out and we were dealing with the fires and everything that was going on and the schedule didn’t work out, unfortunately.’

Fans had previously assumed Dempsey would be back after a reference to his character in Scream 5, where Sydney Prescott (Neve Campbell) referred to her husband as Mark. But it was revealed that Joel McHale would play Kincaid instead.
The upcoming Scream 7 will feature several familiar faces.
