This Key Sailor Moon Villain Has a Secret Connection to 1 of the Anime's Most Important Heroes

Reincarnation and incarnations of the same character are recurring motifs in Sailor Moon. Not only is Tuxedo Mask the reincarnated, destined lover of Sailor Moon, but he also splits off an incarnation, or doppelgänger avatar, of himself in one of the original anime's story arcs. Interestingly, splitting a part of himself off is very similar to what another character does later in the series, Queen Nehelenia.
Queen Nehelenia splits off a part of herself into the figure known as Zirconia. Tuxedo Mask's split is Moonlight Knight. The hero and villain of the series do similar deeds for different highly symbolic and psychological reasons that are significant to the story arc's overarching theme.

Moonlight Knight appears in the Makai Tree arc in place of Mamoru's alter ego, Tuxedo Mask, who helps Sailor Moon when she's in danger.
