It's been five long years since Vikingspremiered its final season, but fans of the award-winning Norse drama will finally have their next Viking obsession. Sure, the sequel seriesVikings: Valhalla from Netflix did enough to quench the thirst of the loyal fanbase, but the short-lived drama was canceled by the streamer last year. Now, Prime Video will set sail on their own Norse adventure, this time outside the Vikings franchise.

Prime Video has granted a series order for Bloodaxe, a new Norse drama from the creative mind behind Vikings, Michael Hirst, alongside Horatio Hirst. Despite the behind-the-scenes connections to Vikings, it will be a standalone series set in a new universe. But like the aforementioned show, it will be based on real-life historical figures.
