Othello, starring Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal, became the highest-grossing play in Broadway history last week, with a total of $2,818,297.00 for eight performances.
The total came as the play is only in its second week of previews and played to 100% capacity. Othello will open Sunday, March 23, for a strictly limited engagement through Sunday, June 8, at the Barrymore Theatre.
The average ticket price last week was $338.09, which was also the highest on Broadway for the week and hundreds of dollars above the next highest price.
