Throughout Dragon Ball, Goku has faced some of the strongest villains in anime history. From Frieza’s power to Majin Buu’s purely destructive might, there have been many major antagonists who have forced Goku to push beyond his limits.

However, as Goku gets stronger, he leaves them behind as nothing but an afterthought (although Super did bring them back), there is one foe that even the creators of Dragon Ball acknowledged Goku could never defeat through conventional means. This enemy is Broly, the Legendary Super Saiyan.

Broly was a magnificent addition to the franchise, with the movies, he became a canon character but was never seen in the anime itself. But even though this is the case, the Dragon Ball movies embraced this being of primal strength and rage and have used him as the antagonist multiple times.
