Russell Crowe to Play the Hero in New Cold War Thriller
A gripping Cold War espionage thriller is in the works, with iconic actor and Gladiator star Russell Crowe set to lead a high-stakes true story of secrets, betrayal, and courage.
According to Deadline, Crowe is set to lead Billion Dollar Spy, a Cold War thriller based on David E. Hoffman’s bestselling book. The film, produced by Walden Media and Akiva Goldsman's Weed Road Pictures, tells the true story of Adolf Tolkachev, a Soviet engineer who risks everything to pass classified intelligence to the CIA.
Directed by Amma Asante, the project is currently in pre-production. Harry Lawtey joins Crowe as Tom Lenihan, the CIA operative who forms a bond with Tolkachev as they navigate the dangers of espionage behind the Iron Curtain.
