Dragon Ball Gt Has Always Been Canon to Dbz – Just Not How You Think
Image
Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball has sustained four decades of entertaining storytelling, but 1996’s Dragon Ball GTremains a contentious entry that’s divided fans. Dragon Ball Gt continues Goku’s heroic adventures and functions as a sequel to Dragon Ball Z, albeit one that wasn’t written by Akira Toriyama or adapting a manga as source material. Dragon Ball Gt takes some big swings, some of which work better than others and some that only work now in the context of subpar Dragon Ball storytelling. Audiences were surprised when Dragon Ball Super was announced to be taking place in the ten years that separate Kid Buu’s defeat and the 28th World Tournament.

Dragon Ball Super wouldn’t be following up Dragon Ball Gt’s events, but it instead tells a new story that many felt was meant to replace Dragon Ball Gt as the canon Dragon Ball Z sequel.
