Dbz Editor Reveals Toriyama Stopped Making New Projects Because He'd Never Top Dragon Ball
Former editors of the Dragon Ball manga have argued over the creative drive of the late Akira Toriyama following his completion of Dragon Ball Z -- or, to be more accurate, the lack of passion Toriyama showed after finishing the series.
Kazuhiko Torishima, Yu Kondo and Fuyuto Takeda were Toriyama’s editors on the Dragon Ball series for 11 years for Weekly Shonen Jump. The trio discussed their work history on the latest episode of KosoKoso, a Japanese podcast that Torishima hosts with Yuji Horii, the creator of Dragon Quest, who worked with Toriyama on the popular role-playing franchise by Square Enix, as well as Chrono Trigger for the Super Nintendo. The editors discussed Toriyama’s life after Dragon Ball and why they believed he didn’t work on anything new soon after.
