Inside ‘The Oner’: How They Shot Episode 2 of ‘The Studio’

As IndieWire wrote about earlier this week, every scene in co-creators and co-directors Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s “The Studio” is an uninterrupted one-take. The only cutting happens in the transition between scenes.
But Episode 2, aptly named “The Oner,” takes this conceit to a whole other level: The entire episode is one shot, capturing the stressful environment of a film crew trying to shoot its own complicated oner and fighting the ticking clock of a setting sun.
When Rogen and Goldberg were on an upcoming episode of the Filmmaker Toolkit podcast, they explained the idea behind how they shot the series stemmed from their initial conception of Episode 2.
“Very early I remember there was discussion of like, ‘This will be the best episode,’” said Rogen. “We were like, [the use of the oner] is actually gonna capture the panic and the mania, the compressed nature of the timelines and the stories, which a lot of the episodes have.
