What's on Netflix has now released its breakdown covering 2025 so far and the shows that debuted during it. Notably for anime fans, only one title in the medium managed to place among the top 20 non-English language series to hit the platform.

For the website's breakdown of the top shows so far this year, several key points went into how the included titles were judged, many of which made it difficult for most anime to compete. To begin with, What's on Netflix broke down the titles into four separate categories: English movies, English TV series, non-English movies, and non-English TV series. This meant Sakamoto Days fit squarely into the "Non-English Language Series" section, which tops out at significantly lower viewing numbers than its counterpart.
