Adapted from author Harlan Coben’s novel of the same name, Netflix’s latest Spanish crime thriller, Caught aka Atrapados, offers a complex perspective on crime and justice, appearance and reality. Even though the narrative itself is somewhat overburdened by an abundance of subplots, themes, and topics that range from child predators, bureaucratic cover-ups, teenage vulnerability, complex family dynamics, misplaced blame and ensuing repercussions, and even land disputes, the central plot does a decent job of tying up all the threads neatly. Set in the picturesque Argentinian town of Bariloche, the story follows investigative journalist Ema Garay as she apprehends an alleged child predator; however, as her investigation takes her through a maze of secrets and deception, a longstanding conspiracy is brought into the open. There are enough twists to keep viewers hooked through the duration of six episodes, and strong performances by the talented cast also help in that regard.
