The two-hour-long silent movie is a veritable visual splendor, using clockwork phantasmagoria to explore elements and themes of faith in a dystopian world, creation myths, the celebration of life, art and music, human connection—and most importantly, the power of cinema as a medium. For a silent movie such as this one, which omits verbal dialogue and exposition to focus on true immersion, incorporates universal symbolisms to address its myriad themes, and uses its dreamy setting as the most significant narrative element, drawing a single definitive interpretation is impossible.
