The cast of Dragon Ball Zis massive, with an incredibly tight focus on the writing of its main characters and villains. Characters like Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Frieza and Piccolo are some of the best-written characters in shonen anime history. Still, not every Dragon Ball Z character is created equally; some characters fall so flat in terms of writing that calling them characters at all feels like giving them too much credit.

It'd be easy to dismiss every forgotten character in Dragon Ball Z as the worst of the series, but some characters maintain influence over the plot despite their shortcomings. Most of the poorly written Dragon Ball Z characters from Broly to Chi-Chi still have the potential to be better written with a few tweaks. Despite Dragon Ball Z's well-deserved acclaim, several characters suffer from weak writing that ultimately holds them back in the story.
